Dept. of Molecular Genetics
Introducing our department.
he Department of Molecular Genetics explores various and novel life phenomena at the molecular level. It applies acquired knowledge to fields such as biotechnology, aiming to address future challenges, including food and climate change issues that are expected to deepen. This department also focuses on developing molecular diagnostic technologies and functional biological materials to enhance the quality and quantity of human life, making it a representative advanced scientific discipline that can improve humanity's life qualitatively and quantitatively.
History of the Department of Molecular Genetics
· 2013 : Establishment of the Department of Molecular Genetics
· 2014~2018 : Participation in the University Specialization Project (CK-1)
· 2013~2020 : Consistently selected as an excellent department in departmental evaluations
· 2020 : Introduction of the university's first micro-module system
· Faculty Composition : Full-time professors (7 professors), dedicated professors (1 for teaching, 1 for research, 1 for industry-academic cooperation)
Educational Goals
The program aims to foster individuals who understand life phenomena at the molecular, biochemical, genetic (somatic), and epigenetic levels, and who are capable of using genetic engineering technology based on these principles to develop high-value-added functional biological resources and useful substances to solve human food and environmental problems and to promote human health in the 21st century bio-era. We cultivate human resources who have the academic background to lead the 21st century biotechnology era, and who have the personality and integrative thinking as members of a community.
Introducing Our Department's Distinctive Programs
Distinctive Program
- Departmental Micro-module Structure To clarify the content studied in Molecular Genetics by area by moving away from fragmented, integrated major courses and systematizing them according to their academic/practical characteristics.
- Expansion of experimental/practical subject program Organize many major-required and elective-related courses as experimental/practical subjects to enhance comprehension and job training.
- Field Training Program The program develops students' careers by cultivating job performance skills through on-the-job training at companies closely related to Molecular Genetics.
- Research Credit System Students can carry out their assignments while conducting experiments and practical training in the laboratory and explore career paths related to their majors through laboratory experience.
- Special Lecture for Seed Engineer and Civil Service Examination Become a human resource majoring in life resources, seed industry, and smart agriculture-related fields, which are the 8 major national innovation leading fields in the era of the 4th industrial revolution (obtain major-related certifications that will be given points when you get a job)
- Exchange Student Program Exchange with Huazhong Agricultural University in China and Nagoya University in Japan to acquire advanced science and technology and knowledge in the field of life science, and to develop glocal creativity.
- Training for drone technology specialists Students can systematically learn about unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) operation techniques, related laws and regulations, and fields of application.
- Special Lectures by CEOs of Companies and Institutes Special lectures by graduates of University of Dong-A are available online for students' career and employment opportunities.
Department pride
Practical training and skills subjects Top class in student satisfaction.
Department with the highest rate of students acquiring industrial engineer qualifications and the highest rate of students passing civil service examinations
Department with the highest rate of students going on to higher education through the research credit system and laboratory internships
Departmental Club

01
Job Hunting CircleThis circle consists of fourth-year students who are about to graduate and second- and third-year students who are preparing to graduate, and helps students with practical aspects of employment, such as preparing application forms and self-introductions essential for finding employment in related industries, and interview methods.
-
02
Servant Human Resources CircleThis is an academic circle to exchange trends and information on biology in general. Through life-related experimental activities, this circle enables students to strengthen their deepening theoretical learning skills and experimental skills in addition to the basic skills they learn in lectures.
-
03
Creative Human ResourcesThis circle fosters basic vocational skills through visits to expositions in various fields, flea market operations, and participation in contests held inside and outside the schoo., It also enhances sensitivity to future changes and broadens one's perspective on career choices.
