Dept. of Archaeology and Art History

Introducing our department.

The Department of History and Culture, Major in Archaeology and Art History (formerly known as the Department of Archaeology and Art History), is an academic department that educates and conducts research in the fields of archaeology, art history, and museum studies.

The major is suitable for students who are interested in UNESCO World Heritage Sites, artifacts held in museums and art galleries, as well as various exhibitions and content related to these fields. Depending on the academic year, students acquire foundational knowledge about cultural heritage, engage in cultural heritage fieldwork and research, explore domestic and international cultural heritage sites, and receive education in the collection, preservation, management, and digitalization of cultural heritage, as well as internships in museums and art galleries.

Our goal is to nurture future professionals in cultural heritage who possess the skills and knowledge necessary for our cultural heritage. In the future, we aim to guide students to various specialized fields related to cultural heritage, including institutions like the Cultural Heritage Administration, cultural heritage research institutes, specialized cultural heritage excavation organizations, museums, art galleries, cultural heritage appraisal offices, as well as local government cultural and arts institutions, and various sectors within the cultural industry.

Educational Goals

Based on the correct understanding of our cultural heritage, we will simultaneously cultivate fieldwork and research capabilities and develop new cultural contents based on traditional culture in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. By doing so, we will foster future cultural heritage professionals who recognize the uniqueness and value of Korean culture in the world and have the ability to manage our cultural heritage.

Introducing Our Department's Distinctive Programs.

  • Operation of practical training labs In our department's laboratory, we offer practical courses such as osteological analysis and artifact understanding and practice using the artifacts and skeletons in our possession.
