Introducing our department..

The Department of Social Welfare aims to acquire policy, institutional, administrative, and practical knowledge and skills to understand and seek solutions to various social problems in modern society and to anticipate and respond to changes in future society.

Based on these academic characteristics, the Department hopes to train professional social workers who combine the values, theories, and practical skills of social welfare, improve the protection of human rights and quality of life of members of society, and establish social welfare policies and institutional foundations suitable for Korean society, thereby ultimately contributing to the development of social welfare in Korea.

Educational Goals

Students will understand the values, ethics and philosophy of social welfare based on human dignity, develop the ability to approach various problems of individuals and society in a multidimensional manner, learn practical social welfare models, and apply these through field practice in social welfare. Students also develop creative abilities to respond to changing times and improve the quality of human life, as well as problem-solving skills based on analysis and evaluation of social welfare systems and services.

Distinctive Program

  • Career Exploration UCC Concerned Story W+ First half of the year contest sponsored by the Department of Social Work to explore possible fields of employment after majoring in social work and to help students acquire the spirit of challenge and media utilization skills as a preliminary social worker through the production of UCC.
  • Pre-Social Work Competition This is a second-half competition hosted by the Department of Social Work to help students develop their creative thinking and expertise as prospective social workers by writing essays on social work issues and volunteer activities, creating social work UCCs, and planning social work programs.

    The Society for the Study of Future Society WelfareBased on the society's name, "Bisi-Shi En" (beautiful beauty, thinking, leading), we are a circle that takes an interest in social problems and seeks solutions together to learn the true meaning of "social welfare" through volunteer activities such as protecting the rights of children, human rights for the elderly, mentoring, and so on.

    A Handful of SunshineBased on the name of the society, "A Handful of Sunshine," which means "a small handful of our efforts coming together to make a warm sunbeam," this circle embodies social welfare-related knowledge and enhances the abilities of reserve social workers through volunteer activities such as adult literacy education, children's play culture activities, campaigns, bazaars, and external activities.

    What kind of support do students receive for employment when they enroll in the Department of Social Welfare?

    Through special lectures by invited social welfare agency heads and practitioners, special lectures by invited employment graduates (at least 15 times a year), employment circles, and in-depth interviews with lifelong guidance professors, we are strengthening the employment skills of current students, which has led to actual employment.

    Are there any advantages that academic activities have over general club activities?

    You are guaranteed the opportunity to participate in various programs mutually jointly planned by social welfare organizations and academic societies together, and you can acquire major knowledge of social welfare based on information about various volunteer and external activities. Information exchange and networking with the academic society members will greatly help you develop your creativity and problem-solving skills as a preliminary social worker.

    What is the Preliminary Social Worker Competition facilitated by the Department?

    The Preliminary Social Worker Convention is the Department of Social Welfare's signature event, consisting of a contest, a special course on employment, and a "Private Night" sponsored by the Student Association and held annually during the month of November. There are open calls for entries in the fields of essays on social welfare issues, memoir writing on volunteer work, social welfare UCC production, social welfare program planning, and more.
