Introducing our department.

The Department of Taekwondo has an education system with scientific research and academic system of Taekwondo to train the best and most talented athletes and leaders that the world demands.

The sparring team has won the top ranks in two Olympic Games and major international competitions every year. The pumsae troupe has also won many prizes at national competitions, enhancing the discipline.

The Taekwondo Demonstration Team plays a central role in the development of Taekwondo in Korea through various activities for the promotion of Taekwondo.

Educational Goals

The program aims to develop global human resources through overseas internships, dispatch training programs, and joint training programs, and to train not only the best domestic and international athletes and instructors, but also researchers based on Taekwondo-related professional skills.

  • Taekwondo related specialized trainingAfter all classes are over at 6:00 p.m., each group (sparring groups, demonstration groups, and Poomsae groups) will train to strengthen their abilities under the guidance of professional coaches.
  • Summer and winter sports classes
    • Summer sports such as [skin scuba, windsurfing, and cruise yachting] will be offered as required classes for majors each semester to foster an understanding of the sea and a familiarity with the ocean through safety education.
    • Skiing, a standard winter sport, is offered every semester as a required class for majors to acquire basic skills, safety training, and knowledge of teaching methods to improve skills.
  • Taekwondo King Selection CompetitionThe Department of Taekwondo's own event where current students in grades 1-4, regardless of major, compete in teams in the detailed disciplines of Taekwondo [ sparring, demonstration, Poomsae] to deepen friendships and experience various majors.

    RevolutionDong-A University's only Tae Kwon Do central circle Revolution!This is a circle where you can learn everything from basic movements to specialized techniques of Taekwondo. The circle is facilitated mainly by students of the Taekwondo Department and allows for free exercise as well as training. There are also opportunities to participate in demonstrations and competitions.

    If I enter the Department of Taekwondo, do I have to be unconditionally active in a sparring, a Pumsae troupe, or a demonstration troupe?

    No, it does not matter if you take regular courses and participate in a comparative course of your choice, or if you participate in Taekwondo clubs and activities.

    What are the subjects related to the Department of Taekwondo?

    The Department of Taekwondo offers a number of practical subjects related to Taekwondo professional development, such as basic Taekwondo skills, Pumsae, sparring, demonstration, and Taekwondo gymnastics, as well as theory subjects such as Introduction to Taekwondo Studies, Taekwondo Referee Management, Taekwondo English Teaching Method, Taekwondo Program Planning and Counseling, Taekwondo Event Sponsorship, and Taekwondo Coaching. Theory courses include Introduction to Taekwondo, Taekwondo Referee Management, Taekwondo English Teaching, Taekwondo Program Planning and Counseling, Overseas Taekwondo Stadium Industry, Taekwondo Event Sponsorship, and Taekwondo Coaching. In addition, courses required for physical education, such as exercise physiology, sports medicine, physical education measurement and evaluation, sports ethics, and kinesiology, are offered.

    Admission to the Dong-A University Taekwondo Department can be done by combining three years of high school performance and practical exam scores. If you work hard on Taekwondo training related to sparring, poomsae, and demonstrations and get good grades on the practical exam, it can help you get admitted.
